I would still recommend this to any George Harrison fans.įavorite Song: “Crackerbox Palace” A fun song with a fun video made by Eric Idle of Monty Python.Įven better than the last one, George Harrison is the perfect self-titled album.

Maybe it’s because I know he still has three more great albums in him that I can’t quite give this a higher score. It’s certainly better than his last one, and even better than Dark Horse, but… something. I just can’t figure out what to say about it. Lyrically half of these songs are kind of soppy, while the other half are just downers. This album includes his first sequel song “This Guitar (Can’t Keep From Crying)” which, representing the album as a whole, is nowhere as good as its predecessor. While Dark Horse was still a very good album by popular standards, this one is straight-up bad. Here is where I believe his first real stumble is. Despite the fact that I’m giving this album a much lower score than his previous two, and an even lower score than Wonderwall Music, I would still recommend this album to anybody.įavorite Song: “Dark Horse” As I said before, I actually like his voice on this track. His voice is clearly affected by laryngitis, especially on the songs “Ding Dong, Ding Dong” and “Dark Horse,” but while it harms the former it actually elevates the latter oddly enough. When I compare it to his best works, it doesn’t come anywhere close. On the one hand I do genuinely like this album, but on the other hand it’s clearly a big step down from his previous two albums. Highly recommend to anyone.įavorite Song: “Be Here Now” The most peaceful meditative song is perfect for this album, as its general sound helps differentiate Living in the Material World from All Things Must Pass. It’s also a great mix of the spiritual and personal. I know I’m in the minority when I say this, but I love this album even more than All Things Must Pass (partially because of the lack of Apple Jam). Highly recommend this album to literally anyone, as long as they skip the last disc.įavorite Song: “What is Life” My favorite George Harrison song, just has a great energy to it. It certainly speaks to the rest of the albums strength that I’m still giving it the score I’m giving it.

I always stop after the second disc when listening to this album (this is the only Harrison album I own the record of currently, though I do have my eyes on the vinyl collection after this). As I said previously, I don’t particularly care for instrumentals, and this is certainly no exception. There’s one thing I hate about this album, and I mean HATE. Almost everything about is perfect down to the two version of “Isn’t It a Pity.” Almost. It’s one of the most loved post-Beatles albums. This one is definitely the hardest ones to write about.

I still can’t recommend this to anyone though, as ultimately it is exactly what it says it is: electronic sound.įavorite Song: N/A I can’t tell the two sides apart.

Also, interesting fact, George was the 95th person to buy a Moog synthesizer. It’s not abrasive or offensive enough for me to hate. I could say “I hate this, this is trash, it’s clearly just George fooling around with stuff he’s just learning!” Alas, I didn’t hate this. I could go with the crowd on this one, I really could. I think I would recommend this album to anyone who’s interested in George’s solo stuff.įavorite Song: “Party Seacombe” I know I said I prefer the Indian stuff, but this psychedelic track just does it for me. Oddly enough however, it’s the Indian inspired tracks that work the best for me. I wish I could explain why I liked this album so much, because I usually don’t care for instrumental (more on that later) nor do I have any particular affinity for Indian music (Don’t mind it in Beatles works, just don’t go out of my way for it). I finally did a deep dive into George Harrison's solo stuff, and decided to make a post about it! My scores pertain only in relation to his other albums (so a 10/10 Harrison album isn't necessarily equal to a 10/10 Beatles one) Also, I will not be including The Traveling Wilburys works.
